Participant Age: 10-25
Participant registration fee: $30 (can participate in as many events as their schedule allows)
Can friends and family watch for free and come visit the booths? Yes, no cost for those attending without speaking or debating.
Judges: We need judges (parent & non parents) to commit to judging for at least an hour. Please select your speech or debate judging times on our signup forms (coming soon).
Registration Deadline: A week before the event- Friday, May 25th
Tournament Theme: We are encouraging participants to speak and debate on what is "good" in God's World (from a Christian perspective).
Speech and Debate help & tips:
Show up 15-30 min early before your speech and Debate and dress professionally.
Run through your speech several times before the event
Join us for one (or both) of our speech and debate prep zoom meeting on May 9th & 10th from 10am-12pm both days.

Food: Light refreshments will be available free at the Engage table. Also, we will be selling more food for lunch and snacks throughout the day (other booths might be doing that as well).

Judges deliberation/adding up forms.
Exhibition debate (large room)
3pm- Rewards announcement. in the large room
3:30pm- Event ends. Clean up.
Individual Speeches
Level: Please list of you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced speaker. Your judging will be based upon what you select.
Length: Max Speech time: 10 minutes. Ideal: 7-9 min 30 seconds (except Impromptu)
Basic Judging Criteria for speeches: Organization, Logic, Connection to our theme, God honoring content, professionalism, speech, volume and pace, body language. We will have official judges forms available (NCFCA forms) that the judges we be able to review prior to the event.
Three Types of speech events:
Informative Speech-
examples: Informative speech on an creation science topic, apologetics topic, Bible study lesson, Christian philosophy/morality topic (defining what is good), etc.
Persuasive- max Speech time 10 min.
Examples- persuasive speech on a focused topic persuading someone on the merits or goodness of one position over against another (i.e. "Christians should care about or take action on this topic
Impromptu*
*Students are given a topic (consistent with our theme) from the judges and then they have 1 min to prep and then speak on it without notes. Max Speech time for impromptu is 5 min. Minimum recommended is 3 min.

Team Policy Debate- not currently offered, but we will consider it in our next tournament.
Note: Debaters should be prepared to debate twice and prepare an affirmative and negative case. Also, debaters are encouraged to attend one (or both) of our speech and debate prep meetings on May 9th and 10th (both from 10am-12pm) Debate Resolutions: (both with rebuttal)
Beginner resolution: All students should learn how to do formal debate as part of their education.
Intermediate Debate Resolution: Physical violence is a just response to political oppression.
